Servicetax

Service tax on GTA The government has made rules for consignors/consignees to pay the servicetax on service provided by the GTA and many have registered
with the department.
Non excise payees assesses face the problem of
proving that they are entitled for 75% abatement
of the value of the service provided.First they
were asked to get certificates from the transport
companies, now proof is required in the form of
a declaration on the consignment note.
All GTAs have registered with the ST department for this ST.Why cant they department get the details needed,ie that the transport has not
/will not take credit on inputs or the benefit
of Not.12/2003 at the time of registration of
the GTAs or by means of a yearly declaration from
GTA instead of asking every ST assesse for the details after filing of returns. Its a pity that
the GTA does not face any penalties for not
providing the details required and can hold the country to ransom by strikes which the service
receivers cannot!
